At Community Living Australia our volunteers are an important part of our team and they do so many great things to support our clients and staff to be their very best.
One of our volunteers at Southern Metro Day Options — Cara Stokes, has been generously giving her time and talents to the local team.
Cara came to us with a Certificate III in Horticulture and has also just completed a Certificate III in Individual Support.
Living with disability herself, Cara wanted to gain some valuable experience working in the disability sector building her confidence in working with clients.
Five clients at Southern Metro Day Options, with Cara’s help, have been working through a gardening program over ten weeks to bring some extra vibrancy to the venues garden.
More specifically, Cara spent ten weeks working with the clients to create a plan, research suitable plants, shop at local nurseries, and plant new seeds in the existing garden bed.
Cara says working with the clients to achieve this amazing garden was a real thrill as many of the clients wanted to be involved throughout the whole process.
“I have really enjoyed working with clients on this project and it was great to see them wanting to be involved in the gardening project. I also really enjoyed seeing how happy the clients were with what we had produced and especially the great reward for effort at the end”, Cara said.
As the photos show, these gardeners have done an amazing job and we hope they will keep up the great work. If only they could come and do all of our gardens!
Thank you Cara for your marvelous efforts with the Southern Metro Day Options team and we look forward to your ongoing support in 2019.
